How to find out if ChatGPT and Gemini recommend your brand

Short answer

Ask the AI assistants the questions your buyers ask, in fresh conversations, and record for each answer whether your brand is missing, listed among options, or chosen first. Do it with the same set of questions every time, on every assistant, so you can see a pattern instead of one lucky or unlucky answer.

Step 1: write down the questions your buyers really ask

Start from the buyer, not from your brand. Write 15 to 20 questions a customer would type before choosing a product like yours. Most should ask for a recommendation, such as “best accounting software for a three-person agency” or “alternatives to [a competitor] for small teams”. A few can be research questions like “what should I look for in…”.

Never put your own brand name in the question. A question that names you will always mention you, so it tells you nothing about whether buyers find you.

Step 2: ask each assistant in a fresh conversation

Open a new chat for every question, logged out or in a private window where you can, so earlier conversations do not colour the answer. Ask the same questions on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Mode: they draw on different sources and often recommend different brands.

Step 3: sort every answer into one of three outcomes

Also note who was chosen instead, the sentence the assistant used to justify its pick, and which websites it cited. Those three details tell you what to fix.

  • Missing: the answer does not name you at all.
  • Listed: you are one of several options, but not the recommendation.
  • Chosen first: the answer recommends you as its first or best choice.

Step 4: repeat, because answers change

The same question can get a different answer tomorrow. One check is a snapshot, not a measurement. Run the same questions again every week or month and compare like with like. A move from missing to listed on several questions means more than a single answer that changed.

Doing this by hand, and when to automate it

Twenty questions on three assistants is sixty answers per round. Doing that weekly by hand is a few hours of copying and sorting, and it is easy to drift: different wording, different days, forgotten answers.

Seroq does the same steps for you: it drafts the buyer questions from your website (you edit and approve them), asks every connected assistant in fresh conversations, sorts each answer into missing, listed or chosen first, and keeps the exact sentence and the cited sites. Start with the free site check, which shows in seconds whether AI crawlers can read your site at all.

Questions people also ask

Can I just ask ChatGPT “do you recommend my brand?”
You can, but it measures nothing useful. A question that names your brand will always get an answer about your brand. What matters is whether you appear when a buyer asks for the best option without naming anyone.
How many questions do I need?
Fifteen to twenty is a good start. With fewer than ten, one changed answer moves your numbers a lot, so it is hard to tell a real change from chance.
Do logged-in answers differ?
They can. Assistants may use a person's history. A clean, logged-out check shows what a new buyer is likely to see.
